I've been listening to a lot of music the past few months.

Here are a bunch of mini-playlists with some of my favorite recent discoveries, so I can coerce everyone into sharing my tastes :P Note that I mostly listen to stuff on Pandora, so if you're like "wow these read like Pandora playlists," then there's a good reason for that :P

Pump-Up Techno to Make Tonight's Caffeine-Fueled Coding Session Feel SO DAMN EPIC
Dimitri Vegas, MOGUAI & Like Mike "Mammoth" (I listened to this so much I managed to make myself sick of it but THAT BEAT DROP AT 1:15 Y'ALL ahhh)
Steve Angello & Third Party "Lights"
Schoolboy "Zombies Ate My Neighbors"
Martin Garrix "Animals"
Nick Thayer "Like Boom" (I've listened to most his other stuff, too, and like it)
Wolfgang Gartner "The Way It Was"
Pegboard Nerds "Self Destruct"
West Klintwood "Interplanetary"
Brown & Gammon "The Force"
Alex Hide "Get Away (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Remix)"
Lana Del Rey vs Cedric Gervais "Young & Beautiful (Remix)" (If the Gatsby movie didn't totally burn you out on that Young & Beautiful song...)

Chill Electric-ish Grooves for Grinding Through Code in a Less Epic Fashion
Ratatat "Lex" (their stuff is consistently really good if you dig this)
Nautilis "Why It Got To Be So Damn Tough" (alas, this is the only song of his I really care for)
Ronald Jenkees "Stay Crunchy" (all his stuff is super-good ahhhh)
RJD2 "Beyond the Beyond"
INF "Power Moves, Baby"
CFCF "You Hear Colors"

A Really Bizarre Discovery I Made Earlier This Month
Listen to Masta Ace's album Disposable Arts, then listen to 2001ish Eminem songs. HOLY SHIT DO THEY SOUND THE SAME LIKE WOAH. I mean, different subject matter, but their flow/rhythm/whateveryoucallitidon'thaveanactualrapvocabulary is crazy-similar. I guess it makes sense, since Em's cited Masta Ace as an influence and they're both from Detroit, but yeah, interesting stuff.

Chill Jazz-ish Grooves
Blue in Green "Get Back (To Soulful Music)"
Anything by Quantic. Here, I'll get you started.
Also, anything by Nujabes. You're welcome.
Moondog "Bird's Lament" (well-played saxophone is basically sex for the ears)
Kero One "Keep It Alive"

Chill Grooves
Tabi Bonney "Sudan Groove"
Allday "Steezed Out"
Shanghai Restoration Project "Dark Horse" (all their stuff is really good if you dig this!)
Seams "Nachtmusik"
K-os "The Love Song"

British Rap
Sway "Hype Boys"
Dizzee Rascal "Fix Up, Look Sharp" (First decided to look him up when I heard Ratatat's remix of this song. I like the remix a bit better than the original, though both are good! Also if you dig this, a lot of Dizzee's older stuff before he became more pop-ish is good.)
Foreign Beggars "Hold On" feat. Skinnyman
Big Seac, Demon, Doctor, Ghetto, Kano, Low Deep "Get Set (Run the Road Edition)"
Wiley "The Game"
Kano Typical Me

Chill Guitar-ish Grooves
The Donkeys "Lower the Heavens"
John Frusciante "Murderers"

Underground Rap I Think??? Genres Make No Sense
I... am a little embarrassed of how much underground rap I've been listening too lately, gosh. For me, the genre (inasmuch as the hazy and ill-defined genre of "underground rap" is a thing) seems to sit on this awkward border where it's often almost cheesy or just a little cheesy, and we all know I am a sucker for cheese, so I tend to listen to cheesier stuff than feels strictly dignified :P BUT HERE'S SOME OF MY FAVORITES FROM THE CHEESEPILE
Sleep of Oldominion "The Heat" (ft. Masta Ace)
Atmosphere "Trying to Find a Balance" (please don't actually watch him in his music videos, you will die of secondhand embarrassment, but the music itself is good :D)
Eyedea & Abilities "Exhausted Love"
Danger Mouse & Jemini "Medieval" feat. Pharycyde
The Crest "Mr." feat. Supa Ranks
Input "Diamonds on the Inside"
Slaine "99 Bottles"
Felt "Morris Day" (I've liked Slug and Murs independently of each other for a while, so when I found out THEY DID ALBUMS TOGETHER I was like WOAH SWEET AS HELL)

Moderately Less Underground Rap??? Maybe???
Blackalicious "Alphabet Aerobics (The Cut Chemist 2.5 Minute Workout)" (Blackalicious's stuff always has a fun and funky vibe, if you're into this)
Brother Ali "Dorian" (his style reminds me of Ghostface Killah sometimes and it makes me so happy aaaahh)
Cash L3wis "There They Go" (Bewilderingly, this man doesn't have much of an online presence?! Like, there's no Youtube link I can give you, no Wikipedia page, nothing. You can buy his shit on iTunes, though, which I just did, because he really sounds quite polished for an evidently unheard-of rapper. Also listen to "California Country," which made me giggle.)
Naughty by Nature "Get to Know Me Better" (I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY I LIKE THIS SONG SO MUCH i've listened to it like a dozen times in a row and i'm like "why" but)
Nas "Still Dreaming" feat. Kanye West

A Discreet Reminder That Kanye's Really Great Y'All
"Homecoming"
"Diamonds From Sierra Leone"
"Jesus Walks"

Also: I find it hilarious that Pandora thinks that The Geto Boys and The Gorillaz soound similar. (Also... surprisingly, a bit accurate?) I find it less hilarious that getting Pandora to focus on British rap is damn near impossible; it keeps being like "DO YOU WANT BRITISH ELECTRO LOL" and I'm like "Pandora those are not the same what the hell."
