I can't really write a pithy, satisfying teaser for what happens in these chapters without major spoilers for what happened in the previous chapters, so... suffice to say, this fic continues to have (1) Reyson leaning hard into being the Most Insane Man Alive, (2) Naesala having a bad time, and (3) (new with this update!!!) a pretty big Leanne arc. If any of that sounds like your bag, oh boy have I got an additional 53k words for you...!
Start with the new chapters.
Or: read from the beginning.
also there's NEW ART in chapters 15 and 16, my big bang artist is the greatest
The next update will also be the last (it's fully written, just needs editing), so now's a great time to join the ride :D

Date: 2024-10-23 08:16 pm (UTC)god that was such a HEARTWRENCHING delight to read, as you know....
something else i totally forgor to mention in my comments is it was honestly really cool reading sanaki's little flirtation with authoritarianisim arc. like it feels a little hokey to call it that, but you took something that *could* have been moralizing, and naturally wove it in as a corruption of that mind reading ability especially with how reyson goes mad with it in more than a few ways. i think it clicked when she started really going hard against the corruption and i've always heard that one of a tell-tale signs of a dictator is a disproportionate focus on rooting out corruption (since it's easy for the populus to get behind but can focus power a little too narrowly for select people without the checks and balances.)
THAT comment was kinda policy heavy for a fanfic lmao but i found it neat!! :D

Date: 2024-10-23 08:58 pm (UTC)re: sanaki: yeah she was a tricky beast to write in this set of chapters. i might natter on about this more in the inevitable set of author's notes, but, even though she's less of a viewpoint character than the Main Three, i definitely felt i was walking a bit of a tightrope with her... her concern for Reyson's welfare is genuine! BUT ALSO, like, you don't use someone like that entirely by accident, right. and similarly i think she is in many important ways a pretty benevolent ruler, BUT ALSO... i mean, having "perfect" knowledge of every petty fucker beneath you would be a mighty temptation, right, even with decent motives. hadn't made the dictator connection personally but yeah that tie-in totally tracks.... glad all that was landing i loved writing her so much haha
