So I managed to score an emergency visit to my eye doctor. He doesn't think my left eye is infected. However, it has inflitrative corneal-conjunctivitis. Whee. Basically my eyeball decided it didn't want a contact in it and threw a tantrum. (I've had this once before in college a billion years ago) The cornea isn't damaged but the inflammatory response is SO severe right now that my eyeball is so swollen I can barely open the lid and there is so much fluid IN the cornea (plus white blood cells) that I'm unable to see through it. He made me read the letters on the eyechart. Right eye, 20/40 (that's as good as my vision gets), left eye, are there even lines of letters? I can barely see a smear of something that might be black so even 20/200 is beyond my eyes ability right now. I have a second steroid eyedrop that is also antibiotic as well (just in case) Not allowed to wear a contact for pretty much a month. In the meantime the eye is just over there weeping all day, the color of a tomato and scared students.

I did have to go to give that exam, the easiest I will give. 2 got 100%, 1 passed, 3 failed. Guess we're going to have a talk about time management, sports vs academia, come talk to me PLEASE come talk to me and that yes Cs get degrees but they DO NOT get you into grad school usually. (this is my I wanna go to grad school class).

The good news today was it was 10 degrees hotter than expected and yes most of the ice is gone off the parking lot so that's good.

I need to get my story out so I'm preserving what's left of my vision for that. No fun fannish 50 stuff but here's the reading at least.

What I Just Finished Reading:

When the Moon Hits Your Eye - meh

Parable of the Sower graphic novel adaptation of the Octavia Butler classic. I forgot how dystopic this was, not to mention the cringeworthy age gap between the MC (18) and her lover (57).

What I am Currently Reading:

The Final Problem - mystery set in the 60s (for some reason ALL my netgalley arcs are freezing up my kindle app. I'm going to have to try and redownload a lot of these using the netgalley app which annoys me

Dark Life - YA book (so far so good)

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier - okay I'm at the point of thinking Maxim isn't much better than Heathcliff, NOT a good place to be

Heavy Vinyl - graphic novel for the sapphic comic prompt on popsugar

What I Plan to Read Next: La Grand Familia Zombie Day Care and This Is How You Lose the Time Lord

Luna Park history - it was an amusement park in Pittsburgh around 1910.

AMNESTY WEEK #029
Challenges # 001-290

Amnesty Weeks are a chance to post any stories you've written that, for whatever reason, weren't submitted during that week's challenge. And if you can't get the entries you want in during this Amnesty, never fear! The next one will include challenges 001-290, so you'll never miss out.

There's no voting for amnesty entries, and there's no limit on how many you can post, so long as each entry meets the usual community requirements (less than 1000 words, not NC-17, etc.) If, however, you manage to end up with 30 of the things you want to post, try to spread them out through the week for the sake of people's reading pages. These entries may also be crossposted and previewed anywhere you like, since there’s no voting to skew.

At the end of this two-week window, a post will be made collecting all the links of the posted entries, which will also signal the end of the posting period, and a new regular challenge will go up.

Entries are titled the same way as normal: [#] Story Title (Fandom)

“Part 1” of The Rose Field was chapters 1-8. “Part 2” is twice as long (chapters 9-22), and I haven’t gotten any less chatty. So you’re getting a Post 2A and a Post 2B. Look forward to a 3A and a 3B to finish off the set.

As of this roundup, I’ve finished the whole book. Post will have light spoilers, in the notes I put in while editing. Comments are a free-for-all.

Still adding relevant BBC HDM screencaps to break up the text.

Sidenote: At some point in the middle of the original liveblog, I managed to injure my hand. Nowhere near as bad as Lyra’s — I kept an ice pack on it for the first several hours, and within two days, it only hurt if I touched/bent the injured part wrong. (The next week saw a steady decrease in which kinds of motion counted as “doing it wrong.”)

But every time I did, I remembered how Lyra’s spent this whole book with full-on broken fingers, and have an extra wince of sympathy. The only treatment she’s had is some (rose-scented) salve. She hasn’t even splinted them! Has to be a miserable, constant pain.

Lyra portal screencap, in here twice because I like it

Didn’t you set off to find Lyra’s imagination? You must have had some idea of what you were looking for... )

Well, my January got more interesting than I'd hoped.

I started the year without really having much of a goal in mind for the year, much less for what I planned to do month to month, and I floundered a bit on what would be a reasonable expectation for January.

Eventually I settled on:
- I wanted to get back to working on the outline for my current WIP

With a fairly optimistic stretch goal of:
- Finishing that WIP outline

How did that go?

Weeeeell... I did get back - if barely! - to working on the WIP. I think I even managed two days in a row!
And then my appendix tried to kill me. That...certainly derailed my plans a bit.

I haven't been feeling particularly creative since all the health stuff. Even the super easy daydreaming parts have been pretty much nil. This week - already halfway into the month - is really the first time I've even sort of felt capable of considering working on anything, though I haven't yet. I am a bit dismayed by that lack of interest, though I know I shouldn't be. It's not surprising that stress impacts my desire to do stuff, and that was certainly a lot of stress. Still, I don't like that feeling (or lack of feeling about it), and I don't know when my motivation or enthusiasm will return. (I already wasn't feeling a whole lot of it, but it's still noticeable how much less I have at the moment.)

I do hope to work on it at least a little bit this month, but my ambitions are pretty low.

What I hope to do in February:

Unfortunately, I'm basically just copy-pasting last month's goals:
- Resume working on the WIP outline
- (As nice as it would be to finish it, I really do not think that is at all likely.)

One of the things I was trying to figure out at the start of the year was what a reasonable pace and goal really is for me, if I don't want to push to make writing take up more of my time than I feel I have to give to it... I don't feel like I have any better idea! I also haven't been putting much time toward anything, so that doesn't help. Hopefully I'll start feeling a little more capable of doing things before too long.

Two months later, finally posting about finishing Metaphor: ReFantazio. Looking back at my last Metaphor post I was only at the Dragon Temple on Virga Island, but looking at my notes on my phone I stopped writing anything down until near the end lmaoo.

So, thoughts overall: I enjoyed it. If you enjoy the format of a Persona game but would like it set in a fantasy world (dungeon crawling mixed with social links, turn-based battles with summon strategization) then you'll probably enjoy playing this too. The battles are fun but I think the characters are the real highlight of the game. Like with many RPGs, there's a colorful cast with lots of drama and heartfelt moments. I think Eupha and Basilio remain my faves, but I also really liked Hulkenberg and Junah too.

Metaphor ReFantazio yapping continues )

After beating Metaphor I finally started playing Hades II! It's just as fun as the first game and I'm enjoying the new stuff they added to the gameplay. I think my favorite weapons are the axe and the knives and the skull....but they're all pretty good except for that mecha armor thing I used it once and was so bad at it sjdhfkjsdf never again.

Hades II yapping continues )

Unfortunately the past few weeks my free time for gaming has been taken up not by Hades but by Overwatch instead. 😑 Every time I think I'm free... And now they've released 5 new heroes at once and this damn Sanrio collab!!!

Chapter 161: Sako scolding the shit out of Kanuma, Inugami and Arima for interrupting his conversation with Hiiragi. =P

Aw Kusumi hiding behind Enomoto.

Sako getting jealous of Inugami talking to Hiiragi. 😂

Kaji smiling while remembering he, Sako and Hiiragi's past friendship. :')

Nirei doing the face again when Suou finds Kanuma. 🤣

Chapter 162: Sakura was so cute making sure to tell Togame to let him know if they he needed anything.

Lovely scene between Umemiya and Sakura. <3

Sakura beating himself up over not being perfect but Umemiya's not perfect either! No one is and I hope he realizes that someday.

Hiiragi calling Sakura pure and everyone worrying about how he runs head-first into things.

"We'll always keep showing you that we absolutely love being with you. That you're someone that we all cherish."

Sakura's pure delight at the fireworks ahhh.

Chapter 163: So Sugishita lives with his grandparents. The grandad would drive me nuts.

Sugishita spitting out his coffeeee.

Momose seems pretty cute and kind now that we see more of his personality.

Lol so Sugishita is struggling with the fact that he found Sakura cool. I love how everyone was trying to figure out what he was saying when he was trying to stutter out 'cool'.

Sugishita's dentist must hate all the teeth-grinding he does. If he even has one.
