that's a good point re: growing up with stuff; a lot of ppl i know who are voracious romance readers have some kind of story of, like, reading a bunch of their aunt's old paperbacks when they were pretty young, haha. (and certainly i can name lots of genres in other mediums that have a lot of often-unspoken context that you need to accumulate in order to really "click" with the form.)
