the charitable interpretation of that last line she says to Verso, "if you could grow old, would you find a reason to smile?"... i think that implies maybe she talked Verso into living provided that he can grow old and die like a normal person? impossible to say from that little bit; maybe he genuinely was like "you know that sounds nice i'll try that," but otherwise yeah i think the only good choice left is "don't repaint Verso," which would've been sad but fine/understandable. (and if that first option isn't what happened, well, that means what we see in the game is either "she did some kind of painter-lobotomy to make him OK with it," or "he is Screaming On The Inside The Whole Time," both of which are TERRIBLE. but in a way that is in fact pretty interesting for what it'd say about Maelle...!)
