oooh i'm so glad to hear from someone who's actually played The Quiet Year. and yeah that makes sense... iirc there was at least one mechanic trying to push more of the "disharmony & conflict within the community" angle (the little stones you would take when you weren't able to make a compromise), but i can see how it wouldn't really... *do* much. (and possibly there was more than one such mechanic? but the fact that i'm struggling to remember much more than "making a map together" probably proves your point even more, like, if the mechanics don't "hook" into much else in the actual game then they can end up feeling like flavor text themselves, and less memorable), so yeah.
