yeah, i don't think i'd thought about it much myself before my experience with Oath! like, i did know that i enjoy games with some variance rather than wholly deterministic strategy games (e.g. i like Magic the Gathering more than chess), and a bit of that was because it sets up possibilities for cool/unexpected emotional arcs, but generally i'd be thinking of that randomness as, like, opening up a larger design space, creating opportunities for more strategies, rewarding ability to think-on-the-fly... designing specifically to lean *in* to imbalances was kinda new to me and really fun haha
