Because as a teen I voraciously read the Lurlene McDaniel one last wish books I did know about immunosuppressants but not how little time they actually give you. Silverstein had an op-ed in....the NYT? I think? recently, about how she's basically dying again and there's not really anything to be done about it and for fuck's fucking sake FIX THE FUCKING ORGAN TRANSPLANT PROCESS, and she seemed like, well, just a person. Which is actually remarkably notable given our societal tendency to categorize people-with-terminal-illness into "sweet suffering angels" or "horrible people who deserve it."
