I know all three of these! I had similar feelings about The Bright Sessions - I was most interested in Mark and Damien, and wanted Damien to either get a proper redemption arc or have the rest of the characters react the way people normally react to an actual villain. Also, why did Chloe get a pass for reading people's minds and then telling their secrets to third parties? That's only slightly less bad than mind-control!
I gave up on In Treatment because I'm allergic to therapist/client, but I also was most interested in Alex.
I liked Sick Girl a lot for the exact reasons you state. She's now terminally ill from cancer (possibly related to the meds) and is going out as she lived: angry, honest, and refusing to pretty up either herself or the facts to make other people more comfortable.
