It's a traditional trope. So I kind of think it might be inherently understood in a similar that we'd nod and understand when a mother recklessly puts her baby in a not-waterproof-basket and drop him off into a raging river more likely than not to overturn said basket and drown it.
(Incidentally, that one's a very old idea, older than Biblical times.)
Yeah honestly the whole Leanne being saved and magically matured by the forest thing strikes me as pretty bizarre. She doesn't seem all that infantile when you meet her at first, even if you do try to argue that she's rapidly matured after three years with the hawks. (Which, in a kind of weird way, is maybe sorta plausible...)
... Someone should write that fic with Naesala having a certain amount of dissonance about seeing his lovely bride as a toddler.
