I'm glad you liked it! I've found that if someone is willing to embrace the overall premise (or at least suspend their disbelief long enough), they get hooked. French's penchant for slooooowly unwinding plots doesn't always work for me, but I think it works best in The Likeness. It lends this sort of surreal, magical quality, luring you (and Cass!) into complacency before something happens and you're reminded "oh yeah, she's an UNDERCOVER COP." (the onion thing had me SWEATING)
It also makes for a very fun reread. There's so much foreshadowing!
