lebateleur: Ukiyo-e image of Japanese woman reading (TWIB)
From: [personal profile] lebateleur
I read The Westing Game for the first time last year (I'd been aware of it all throughout my childhood but somehow never read it?) and really enjoyed it. Related to your Newbery point, I think it's also a nice reminder that Books Back Then Were All About The White Dudes is not as accurate a statement as recent received wisdom would have it. And I was pretty delighted by the subversive character and plot choices hiding under the brisk goofball-ness of the surface narrative.
