(fun fact, i actually wound up looking up some of your old meta while writing it! i'd toyed with going into more detail wrt food at the dinner party, which got me all sulky to the tune of "it doesn't make any sense for herons to not be able to eat meat, what's the deal with that," and i reread your whole thing about the much better plausible explanation of "herons are vegetarian for religious/moral/whatever reasons," and i felt at peace once more :P i love these herons so MUCH oh my gosh)
