I have fond memories of this book; it was one of the few on my bookshelf as a child, bound in the same volume as Jack London's Call of the Wild.
But while I'm not quite old enough to be Victorian, I am old enough to be out of touch with what younger people like these days, except for noting that none of my sister's kids appreciated any of the books I'd loved in my childhood.
