From osmosis, I understand this series to be the subject of recurring internet kerfuffles and overblown handwringing about "IS IT REALLY OKAY FOR SLAVEFIC TO EXIST" and "HOW DARE THE [AUSTRALIAN] AUTHOR NOT PERFECTLY RECAPITULATE THE REALITIES OF AMERICAN CHATTEL SLAVERY AS AN INSTITUTION" and other such silliness, while being itself fairly tame for the genre? Maybe people just got mad that it got published instead of staying on LJ forever? idgi.
