lol, considering hirohiko's usual fair, it does not surprise me that he'd say the hero should never lose -- that's a running theme/vision/gag in JoJo -- but i love that detail about his research trip! i don't know if you've read some of his work, but Steel Ball Run encapsulates that midwest feel exactly as he's described it above.
