I try not to get on my soapbox about it too much, but honestly, there really is a strain of person (some of them taught my college writing classes) who thinks that genre fiction is innately bad and unworthy.
Because I am a shithead, my response to that person these days (sadly not then) is: "And what do you think pays the freight on your very important literary fiction that loses money?"
