awwww i'm sad no longer human isn't better :c for what it's worth i've heard the translations are inferior to the original text by way of lost in translation things, so it's possible some flaws are due to that (though, what translated book doesn't say that about its translations?), but overall i think the biggest flaws you mention (too melodramatic, too mopey, too self-absorbed) are probably flaws that were carried over from the original text, because dazai osamu was probably suicidal at the time he wrote it, and i feel like those things in writing are actually huge flags signaling depression in the author who wrote em.

the queen of attolia sounds great! i used to be really interested in medieval politicking in literature before i read game of thrones and the interest slowly died :PP
