i wonder if it might be because a lot of online art spaces favor highly, very specifically stylized art (e.g. think of the really vibrant stylization you get with e.g. furry art), whereas in something like an art class you're more likely to focus on stuff like figure drawing, still lifes, and other technically-focused pieces?
it's easy to feel left out or like you're Doing Something Wrong if everyone around you is doing very specific, radical stylizations. but if everyone's painting a dang bowl of fruit, then you at least feel like you're on the right track (even though, ofc, some folks may be treating it with interesting stylistic touches that are out of your grasp atm!)?
