The generations that raised me (mother, grandmother) somehow missed the memo. "Cream rinse" was part of the hair ritual.
I have, as you have seen, long, coarse hair that is a mix of frizzy and actual kinky and breaks a lot. I have been fighting with it for years-- decades. I don't use any shampoo anymore except on my bangs or if it starts feeling gross, and then I only shampoo the roots. Then I use a (fairly expensive) conditioner either geared toward keeping frizzy hair smooth&straight or making "natural curls" depending on how I feel that day. Then I wear one of those "turbie towel things" for 20-to-40 minutes, after which I EITHER:
1) blow-dry everything with some kind of "keep hair straight" cream and a round ceramic brush. 2) blow-dry the bangs and rake a "curl cream" through damp hair and just let it dry, after which it'll need touching up in the afternoon
I have been doing this ritual for about three years and have NEVER been happier with my hair than I am now because I don't HATE it anymore
