Conditioner is required for my hair, it will knot itself and break into thousands of tiny fragments. I basically apply shampoo only to my scalp, slather everything generously with conditioner, let that sit while I wash the rest of me, then rinse and pop out. I did this even when I had waist-length hair that, when braided, had equivalent circumference to my wrist.
