Three Good Things (+ hey y'all i wrote some fic!)

Life has been A Lot for me this entire month, but, that's a topic for a different post. Only good things in this post, my friends.

1) Today I made an extremely tasty chili and now I get to eat it all week, all praise be to this boilermaker chili recipe

2) This weekend I learned that “hiring a falconer” is a thing you can do for your wedding, and immediately proceeded to do so, because hell yeah.

3) I published two new fics!

Shrike, No Chaser: Ace Attorney, Klavier/Apollo fluff, ~2.5k words. Basically, some people enabled me one time by being like "hey what if Ace Attorney but they're all birdwatchers" and this is the result. "Wow, Lua, it sounds like you've been thinking about this a lot—" my headcanon doc for this AU is extensive. Expect many more fics where this came from, lol.

and

Mountains Made of Steam: Fire Emblem 9/10, Reyson being a weird tetchy avoidant mope, also there's Rafiel and Nailah, ~7.5k words. This was my Nagamas exchange gift for lavendre, hi lavendre :P It includes an AWFUL DINNER PARTY so my writing goals were basically accomplished.

Hope I can be more chatty on here shortly. In the meantime, if anyone's having as rough of a January as I've had: remember, the Chinese New Year is coming up! you can just treat January as a free space! you get a fresh start in a mere one week, it's fine—

Ahh I'm glad you like the chili!

That's so cool you can hire a falconer for the wedding XD I guess it makes sense because they do shows at schools so... being able to hire them to do shows elsewhere should work??? Plus there are weddings where they release doves, so having a falcon there also makes sense??? That's so neat. Never thought about it before.

The hope is to have the falcon actually serve as the ringbearer, lol—it's not a guaranteed thing (a trained falcon will often but not always come to the glove on cue), but the falconer says he's done this before and it works out more often than not. (And worst-case scenario, you have a cool bird fly around during the ceremony and then he sets up a lil "meet the bird" thing for the guests at the reception after. Should be fun!)

Oh man, after Nagamas 2020 was so completely mismanaged, I refused to ever participate again. But you got a prompt that wasn't 3H! That's almost like a Fire Emblem victory. I can't wait to sit down and read this.

Also, bless this chili recipe. I have such bad luck with beans, I am going to crush them!! Into being tasty!

\o/! i considered just leaving 3H out of my "games i can write for" list, to force The Powers That Be TM to match me on Tellius/Magvel... but i was like "eh, i'll trust fate to handle it, it's not like i don't enjoy writing 3H," and lo, fortune smiled on me and i got some most delicious Tellius prompts. a nagamas miracle!!!

good luck with the recipe! it's a v flexible recipe and you can keep tweaking it up until the moment you take it off the stove—i often end up throwing in extra hot sauce and a bit of butter near the end, so, very choose-your-own adventure in that way :P

given i was using your reyson fic as bait to get me through a monday workday, i empathize to the work hell. :'D;;; (also loling at the coincidence of fe heroes releasing a hatari-themed character banner about a week ago along with your fic.)

also read the thing about the falcon as a ringbearer (flower bird??? that sounds like a hacker handle you'd consider lul) and that is so incredibly BADASS that i'm so glad you get to have. ;D

(fun fact, i actually wound up looking up some of your old meta while writing it! i'd toyed with going into more detail wrt food at the dinner party, which got me all sulky to the tune of "it doesn't make any sense for herons to not be able to eat meat, what's the deal with that," and i reread your whole thing about the much better plausible explanation of "herons are vegetarian for religious/moral/whatever reasons," and i felt at peace once more :P i love these herons so MUCH oh my gosh)

Oh huh! I wonder if the corn chips is a regional thing? Growing up in the US southeast, I'm not sure I remember ever seeing chili being served without a bag of Fritos nearby. It's an excellent combination; would recommend!

Oh, huh, I have never seen Fritos being served with anything! But then I learned how to make chili via Internet recipes.

It was also very strange to me the first time I saw Fritos being suggested as a salad ingredient -- sure, it made sense because tasty umami salt and crunch, but also, I went ???.
