Writing Goals/Calendar: February 2026

Well, my January got more interesting than I'd hoped.

I started the year without really having much of a goal in mind for the year, much less for what I planned to do month to month, and I floundered a bit on what would be a reasonable expectation for January.

Eventually I settled on:
- I wanted to get back to working on the outline for my current WIP

With a fairly optimistic stretch goal of:
- Finishing that WIP outline

How did that go?

Weeeeell... I did get back - if barely! - to working on the WIP. I think I even managed two days in a row!
And then my appendix tried to kill me. That...certainly derailed my plans a bit.

I haven't been feeling particularly creative since all the health stuff. Even the super easy daydreaming parts have been pretty much nil. This week - already halfway into the month - is really the first time I've even sort of felt capable of considering working on anything, though I haven't yet. I am a bit dismayed by that lack of interest, though I know I shouldn't be. It's not surprising that stress impacts my desire to do stuff, and that was certainly a lot of stress. Still, I don't like that feeling (or lack of feeling about it), and I don't know when my motivation or enthusiasm will return. (I already wasn't feeling a whole lot of it, but it's still noticeable how much less I have at the moment.)

I do hope to work on it at least a little bit this month, but my ambitions are pretty low.

What I hope to do in February:

Unfortunately, I'm basically just copy-pasting last month's goals:
- Resume working on the WIP outline
- (As nice as it would be to finish it, I really do not think that is at all likely.)

One of the things I was trying to figure out at the start of the year was what a reasonable pace and goal really is for me, if I don't want to push to make writing take up more of my time than I feel I have to give to it... I don't feel like I have any better idea! I also haven't been putting much time toward anything, so that doesn't help. Hopefully I'll start feeling a little more capable of doing things before too long.

Question: if you write or read poly ships, what are some of your favorite tropes/scenarios/situations? For example, most of the time I write it in a universe where poly is accepted because I rarely want to write the kind of story where characters are fighting discrimination or illegitimacy because those are topics much more serious than I want to deal with. Occasionally, it will be considered 'unusual' but that's as far as I usually go. Not outlawed or violently shamed.

---

Some reasons I like poly ships because they present an interesting alternative to consider (from a ficcer's viewpoint) and because they challenge conventional definitions of relationship. I have written more than a few of them and they generally fall into certain categories:

PWP threesomes/moresomes
poly Omegaverse packs
romance-leading-to-commitment threesomes

(or sometimes all of the above)

I've written Holmes/Watson/Mary Watson in ACD canon; various permutations of Sherlock/John/Lestrade/Mycroft in BBC Sherlock (both original recipe and genderswapped). I've even written John/Harry/Clara for an incest challenge. And BTS being seven members usually means that there's a threesome somewhere. Or a full-on poly pack situation with Omegaverse. I have written Mad Hatter tea party porn as well as this Snow White and the Seven Dwarves porn. Please heed the tags.

110 ☆ gamer yapping

Two months later, finally posting about finishing Metaphor: ReFantazio. Looking back at my last Metaphor post I was only at the Dragon Temple on Virga Island, but looking at my notes on my phone I stopped writing anything down until near the end lmaoo.

So, thoughts overall: I enjoyed it. If you enjoy the format of a Persona game but would like it set in a fantasy world (dungeon crawling mixed with social links, turn-based battles with summon strategization) then you'll probably enjoy playing this too. The battles are fun but I think the characters are the real highlight of the game. Like with many RPGs, there's a colorful cast with lots of drama and heartfelt moments. I think Eupha and Basilio remain my faves, but I also really liked Hulkenberg and Junah too.

Metaphor ReFantazio yapping continues )

After beating Metaphor I finally started playing Hades II! It's just as fun as the first game and I'm enjoying the new stuff they added to the gameplay. I think my favorite weapons are the axe and the knives and the skull....but they're all pretty good except for that mecha armor thing I used it once and was so bad at it sjdhfkjsdf never again.

Hades II yapping continues )

Unfortunately the past few weeks my free time for gaming has been taken up not by Hades but by Overwatch instead. 😑 Every time I think I'm free... And now they've released 5 new heroes at once and this damn Sanrio collab!!!

Manga Check-in: "Wind Breaker" vol. 21 ch. 161-163

Chapter 161: Sako scolding the shit out of Kanuma, Inugami and Arima for interrupting his conversation with Hiiragi. =P

Aw Kusumi hiding behind Enomoto.

Sako getting jealous of Inugami talking to Hiiragi. 😂

Kaji smiling while remembering he, Sako and Hiiragi's past friendship. :')

Nirei doing the face again when Suou finds Kanuma. 🤣

Chapter 162: Sakura was so cute making sure to tell Togame to let him know if they he needed anything.

Lovely scene between Umemiya and Sakura. <3

Sakura beating himself up over not being perfect but Umemiya's not perfect either! No one is and I hope he realizes that someday.

Hiiragi calling Sakura pure and everyone worrying about how he runs head-first into things.

"We'll always keep showing you that we absolutely love being with you. That you're someone that we all cherish."

Sakura's pure delight at the fireworks ahhh.

Chapter 163: So Sugishita lives with his grandparents. The grandad would drive me nuts.

Sugishita spitting out his coffeeee.

Momose seems pretty cute and kind now that we see more of his personality.

Lol so Sugishita is struggling with the fact that he found Sakura cool. I love how everyone was trying to figure out what he was saying when he was trying to stutter out 'cool'.

Sugishita's dentist must hate all the teeth-grinding he does. If he even has one.

I think I'm done with watching ice skating (except for speed)

The web seems to agree that Cha Junhwan got unreasonably low marks from the judges. I am willing to agree - I thought it was very good and since I saw it not live, I already knew that there was no falling. I hate seeing falls. Snippets here:

The French pair that won gold for ice dancing are only a pair because of sex abuse by a previous partner.
https://people.com/all-about-french-ice-dancers-controversy-11903770
Also, I think their costumes are ugly, but I have no idea how many points that gets.

NBC is all in on Ilia Malinin, to the point of erasure of other good skaters. He seems nice enough, I don't think it's his fault, but it makes me not want to see anything he does.

As far as NBC's coverage goes, we were being shown live half-pipe when I checked in this afternoon. The commentator suddenly said, very honestly: "We're switching to luge, because a US team might get a medal."
As it happened, the US teams ended up in 6th and 8th place, not in 1 or 2 or 3, but of the guys who came close, one is from Massachusetts, so yay. I remember in days of old when the local post office of the home address of athletes had a banner on it saying so. Paul Wylie won a skating medal in 1992. IIRC, he was living in Somerville at the time, and the 02144 PO had a banner.

Harmonycon...soon

I haven't been posting here lately :(

Harmonycon starts... on the 13th... I'm kind of stressed out because while I don't spent that much money at cons, it's mainly Uber I worry about since I didn't get a hotel room. And my paycheck is really really mid since I missed work during the storm. I plan on attending all 3 days, but I ran into a last minute issue with Sunday because I realized too late (read: last night) that the closing ceremony is at 3-4PM. That is SUPER early and if I theoretically Uber over at 10-11AM, I won't be there very long. But I specifically requested the 15th and 16th off from work because I wanted to try attending all 3 days, so I'm just wondering... What do I even do on the 15th? Not only is 4PM too early to go home, but 4-6PM is peak rush hour traffic so going home will be expensive and take a long time. But I do not live near that part of Dallas so I don't know what's walking distance...? I can walk a few miles on foot but man I have no idea.

My potential "escape route" for Sunday is someone who is at Sonic Expo that I added on Discord is doing a "spinoff" event after the con at 7PM, I could probably follow his group and go there... but otherwise I'm just winging Sunday. Just because the convention ends at 4PM doesn't mean I'll get kicked out of the hotel lol. There should be some stuff going on. My sister's boyfriend will let me know if he works that day too because otherwise I offered for us to do something in Dallas if he's off after 4PM.

Also, I'm off tomorrow before the con. Here's my checklist:
- Haircut
- Pack itabag and extra tote
- Check my tub near my computer for MLP stuff I want to bring or give away
???

2/11/2026 Lake Anza // Creekside Park Alameda County

We had some stormy weather last night so I went to see if anyone interesting had blown in. The Bufflehead had not been reported immediately previously but the Hooded Merganser girl gang (probably Winter residents), the Mallards, and the Pied-billed Grebes were all expected birds. The only surprise to me was a juvenile Double-crested Cormorant; I would love to know where they were hatched. The list: )

I'm not too sure of that list. Was I not paying attention? It's hard to believe there were no Yellow-rumped Warblers around the Lake, but there were periods of extreme wind, so who knows? From there I drove down to Creekside Park, Alameda County, where there were lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers! It was fixin' to rain when I arrived, and after some beautiful moments of sunshowers, standing under a huge oak watching fine rain blown around and shining in the sun, as I left it began to rain in earnest. Nothing specially interesting there. The Oak Titmice were singing but the Lesser Goldfinches were still flocking rather than pairing up. The list: )

Again, this list seemed lacking, but maybe it was just that sort of day.

Dinah knew she wasn't alone as soon as she stepped into her house, but the assassin there was quick to show she was not openly armed. In fact, Shado's eyes were filled with concern, and it was not for the sleeping child on the couch, but for Dinah herself.

"I thought, perhaps, you needed support."

Shado's words broke her reserves, letting Dinah weep. What even was her life that Oliver's one-night fling had come to give more of herself than any hero in the community?

Shado held her, eased her down on the end of the couch, and stayed close.

Read Because: chatting with the recipient of an exchange fic, published online but had to track this down via the Wayback Machine
Review: I live in longing, and it's no small part of that draws me to portal fantasies; the longing here—a second person narrative about a "you" haunted by dreams of another world and the other—is bitter and consuming, vengeful and weaponized, and profoundly evoking; I adored this, each word. Genre inversions are more common and less shocking than people writing those inversions seem to think; frankly, these themes are to some extent present in all portal fantasy; but who cares, because there's a reason the genre elicits them and I always crave more. The confrontational, internet speech-style and unusual address is vibrant, intrusive, and demanding, and this has teeth where other takes of the genre don't; call it wretched, wrenching.

... and it's kind of hilarious to read from within the alterhuman community, because ... I just know these people: parallel lives, hearthomes, soulbonds, we got it all, and in the protagonist's search for the explanations or even possible connection the oversight feels oddly glaring, which isn't how I normally feel when my little community of weirdos goes rightfully overlooked.

Wednesday reading

January was rereading, and not much of that: Paladin of Souls, by Lois McMaster Bujold, and Sorcery and Cecilia by Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevermer: the latter was a read-aloud, with Cattitude and Adrian switching off depending on which character the letter was from.

I also bounced off a couple of rereads, and read news and other articles online.

Just finished:

Grown Wise, by Celia Lake: another of her Albion historical romances, set in a fantasy Britain with a middle-sized community of people who use or are aware of magic. This one is set a couple of years after World War II, and people are dealing with both individual loss and trauma, and the war's effects on the land. I enjoyed this, but I don't know whether it would be confusing as a starting point. (It's the first in a new series of these books, which might help.)

The manager type

This morning I got to call one of the candidates we interviewed yesterday and offer her the work placement. That felt nice.

But also weird. I've never done anything like this before! I am in a very technical sense her line manager, in that her actual manager, my manager, is now on leave for the next week and a half and he asked me to take care of this. Which meant not just the fun phone call but doing paperwork, and that meant having to write down my own name and contact details where it said "Manager."

Wild.

The less said about the rest of the work day the better, but the rest of the day was good. I went for a nice long walk in the warm(ish) drizzle with Teddy, who drank from so many muddy puddles that he had a big dirty circle on his snout. Like the dog equivalent of a kid with a milk mustache. The air smelled amazing, the plants and the soil are starting to wake up.

Then [personal profile] angelofthenorth invited us over for cheesy toad in the hole, which is a genius idea and I think I might have to make it in future. It was great to see her, and Mr Smith.

And since we'd all planned to go to the gym, she and I walked there while D drove V home and then came back to join me (Miriam having gone swimming). The gym is so much more fun with him there.
