also it occurs to me suddenly that it may be interesting to do this for a "classic" writer with a large corpus—like, back when I was obsessed with Twain, I could tell by reading just a sentence or two of a random piece whether that piece was early, middle, or late Twain—sometimes based off the subject matter but mostly just because his style felt very different for each of those periods
and it wasn't even a "oh early twain is clearly better than late twain" thing; they were just... different
maybe I'll try doing that with a different author next time I have a library adventure :P
