For relatively dense material, actually, I'd say it's a pretty accessible read! Clearly written, and it stays grounded in an overall narrative, focuses on various "characters," etc, so that it doesn't feel like you're reading something too dense and academic. (Though like, yeah, you can definitely tell this was someone's doctoral dissertation that became book-ified; it very much has the "here is my thesis statement, here is a point backing it up, here is another point" structure.)

ideas, like plants, are great in certain gardens, but weeds in others

that's such a cool lil phrase; i'm gonna save that for myself, haha.
